HOW IT'S PERFORMED:
The sun emits two types of ultraviolet rays: UVA (long-wave) and UVB (short-wave). Throughout our lives, most of us are exposed to substantial amounts of UVA, which penetrates the skin more deeply than UVB. UVA rays can damage keratinocytes, the skin cells located in the basal layer of the epidermis, where most skin cancers originate. UVB rays are the primary cause of skin reddening and sunburn, affecting the more superficial layers of the skin. They play a significant role in the development of skin cancer and contribute to tanning and photoaging. In the U.S., the most intense UVB exposure occurs between 10 AM and 4 PM from April to October.
